In 2012 I was on assignment for the New York Daily News to photograph a group of five Native American marathon runners who were in training for the New York City Marathon. They varied in their running experience but all were committed to raising awareness about the issues that they and their community face on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
